Establishment and development of the Association

The Uzbekistan Psychiatric Association was established by a meeting of its founders on 22 February 2019. The meeting approved the Association's charter, setting out its aims, objectives, operating principles and governance structure. On 25 March 2019, the Association was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and received Certificate No. 877.

Since its establishment, the Association has developed professional cooperation, supported scientific and educational initiatives, promoted modern approaches in psychiatric practice and participated in international professional exchange. Particular attention is given to early-career specialists, mentoring and regional professional links.

An important milestone was the 3rd Samarkand Spring School for Young Psychiatrists and Addiction Specialists, held on 8–12 April 2026 with participants from Central Asia and other countries. During the School, leaders of national psychiatric associations in World Psychiatric Association Zone 10 met to discuss cooperation and preparations for WPA Regional Congress Tashkent 2027.

Uniting professionals

The Association's mission is to unite professionals to advance modern psychiatry and mental health in Uzbekistan, improve the quality of professional care, strengthen ethical standards, protect patients' rights and support members' professional development.

Improving psychiatric care

To help improve the organisation of high-quality psychiatric care, develop prevention, diagnosis, treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation, and protect the rights and lawful interests of people with mental disorders and Association members.

  2. Help develop proposals for improving the organisation and quality of psychiatric care.
  3. Support the rights, dignity and lawful interests of people with mental disorders.

  5. Support professional education, training and continuing development for specialists.
  6. Promote the application of research, leading practice and modern technologies.
  7. Contribute to the development of professional and ethical standards.
  8. Develop cooperation with medical, scientific, educational, civil-society and international organisations.
  9. Provide members with information and scientific and methodological support.
  10. Organise conferences, forums, schools, seminars and other professional events.

The Association works with the World Psychiatric Association, national professional associations and specialised scientific and educational organisations. International cooperation supports the exchange of knowledge and experience, joint scientific and educational events, early-career professionals, and Uzbekistan's participation in regional and global mental health initiatives.

The Association is a professional platform connecting specialists from different regions and institutions. It promotes the exchange of clinical and scientific experience, continuing education, discussion of quality and ethics in psychiatric care, support for early-career professionals and stronger international links. Its statutory work complements that of public, scientific and educational institutions and focuses on developing the professional community and improving mental health care.
